How To Be A Good Accountability Partner: Weigh In On Your Health Goals For A Successful Week

As an accountability partner and health coach I asked my clients to weigh in on Fridays, what worked this week? What could you work on next week? If it’s getting on the scale or going by how you feel or how your clothing fits, we all need to take a moment and reevaluate our progress so we can set new goals for our health each week. I do the same, I start on Friday and by Sunday I rewrite my goals.

How to be a good accountability partner:
> Establish what their goals are and support them with these. Goals are often personal!
> Help them focus on the goal, ask them why they want to achieve the goal. Remind them of their motivation. Keep positive rather than focus on any failures.
> Really listen to them. Be compassionate, gentle and gracious when your partner shares their emotions or feelings.
> Communicate regularly. Be sure to keep checking in on them, ask questions and support your partner.
> Offer thoughtful suggestions. If you see a real obstacle between your partner and their goal, share it. Brainstorm solutions together and devise small steps to achieve the goal.
> Stay committed. Your partner needs you and this may be a short or long term goal.
> Share your progress with them. Most accountability partners are working on similar goals. Share your successes and failures with them so they see they aren’t alone.
