How I Started Reading My Affirmations Out Loud
At my lowest moment I came across the words of the Dalai Lama.
I was struggling with my anxiety and depression, had gained close to 50lbs, was routinely drinking and trying to quit cigarettes. I was nearing 40 years old with two young kids and completely lost myself.
My mom said come with me, I was numb and always trust her and she took me Kripalu Center For Yoga & Health, in MA. Sitting around in a circle watching others chant and breathe I was handed a strip of paper with the words. We read it out load and together.... "today I am fortunate to have woken up...." I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it.
That scrap of paper made it behind a magnet on my frig, and taped to my monitor, sometime I would read it and more recently I repeat it daily, because I want to remind myself that I GET to wake up and try it ALL over again. This has become one my affirmations.

What are Affirmations? Why Should We Say Them?
Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes. Affirmations are used to reprogram the subconscious mind, to encourage us to believe certain things about ourselves or about the world and our place within it.

How to Create Positive Affirmations
Start with the words “I am.” These are the two most powerful words in the English language.
Use the present tense.
State it in the positive. ...
Keep it brief.
Make it specific.
Include an action word ending with –ing.
Include at least one dynamic emotion or feeling word.
